Sanctions on Israel

As Israel escalates its genocide in Gaza and accelerates settlement building and annexation in the West Bank, I urge you to call for sanctions to put pressure on Israel to adhere to international law.

The International Court of Justice has placed clear obligations on all states to prevent the risk of genocide and ensure they do not aid or assist Israel’s illegal occupation, which is devastatingly harmful for Palestinians.

The UK government should oppose US President Trump’s proposal to remove the Palestinian population of Gaza to other countries and make it American territory. Words of condemnation are not enough, until the government puts meaningful pressure on Israel through sanctions, it is complicit in the Trump-Netanyahu ethnic cleansing plan.

The UK government’s continued military, economic and diplomatic collaboration with Israel means the UK is complicit in Israel’s violations of international law and human rights.

**Sanctions could put pressure on parts of Israel’s economy that are involved in Israel’s serious violations of international law – and stop Israel acting with impunity.**

**More than 60 British MPs from across seven parties have already urged the government to implement comprehensive sanctions on Israel.** As my MP I urge you to demand that the UK government:

1\. Ban trade with and investment in Israel’s illegal settlements

2\. Suspend the UK’s Trade and Partnership Agreement (TPA) with Israel, conditional on the latter’s full compliance with international law

3\. Cancel talks over a new trade deal with Israel

4\. Sanction companies involved in Israel’s illegal settlements and broader occupation

5\. Implement broader measures as necessary to fulfil its duty to prevent genocide and ensure its trade relations do not aid or assist Israel’s unlawful occupation of Palestinian territory.

The UK applied a broad range of sanctions on Russia over its occupation of Crimea, including sanctioning banks that bankrolled its occupation. As Israel commits atrocity after atrocity, I urge you to demand the government steps up and puts pressure on Israel’s war economy.
