Trump, Israel and Iran
- Trump’s green light for Israel’s war on Iran is an illegal declaration of war, not an act of ‘self-defence’, says Stop Trump
- Coalition supports protest this Saturday 21 June
Donald Trump gave the ‘green light’ for Israel’s war on Iran – and now the US looks set to join in directly. Trump’s latest calls for the evacuation of Tehran, a city with a population of 10 million people – bigger than London – flagrantly violate international law. Israel’s strikes on Iran are an illegal declaration of war, not an act of ‘self-defence’.
Politicians and the media shamefully and dangerously repeat Israel’s propaganda narrative to stoke up jingoistic sentiment against Iran. Trump has claimed that the US is not involved, but has admitted “we knew everything”, said that “we” control the skies over Iran, repeatedly made threats against Iran and called for their “unconditional surrender”.
So much of mainstream UK news coverage echoes the same tone of propaganda and racism as the 2003 US and UK led invasion and occupation of Iraq, leading to hundreds of thousands of Iraqis being killed, and years of crisis across the region.
As with Iraq, the majority of the British public oppose any war with Iran.
In the meantime, Israel’s genocide in Gaza and full siege on the West Bank continue, with Palestinians killed daily as they try and access trickles of food aid to avoid starving to death. Our collective focus and attention must stay on Gaza and Palestine as we seek accountability from the UK government over its complicity in these war crimes.
Stop Trump stands in solidarity with refugees and migrants fleeing war across the world, created by failed western foreign and colonial policies, only to face further dehumanisation in the UK, as they’re scapegoated for rising inequality and economic failures here.
We must continue mobilising to stop these horrific atrocities and build the people-powered global resistance against Trumpism.
Stop Trump Coalition supports Palestine Solidarity Campaign’s national protest in London on 21 June calling for an end to arms sales to Israel, an end to the genocide in Gaza, an end to Israel’s occupation of Palestine and no to war with Iran.
We encourage as many of our supporters as possible to attend this protest, as well as to use our Write To MP tool to call for full sanctions on Israel.
