WRITE TO YOUR MP Release the Mandelson files – in full and immediately I am sure you share my disgust at the ongoing Peter Mandelson scandal. I am writing because I am concerned that files about his appointment and time as US Ambassador may not be released in full, despite Parliament’s vote to do so. The humble address motion (as amended and passed) includes a provision for material to be withheld if it could be “prejudicial to… international relations”. If interpreted broadly, this could exclude a large swathe of Mandelson’s messages while he was ambassador if it is believed that their contents may anger Donald Trump or embarrass other US contacts. In this increasingly grave situation, the public need the maximum possible transparency. Therefore, I hope you will make your view known to the government, and to the Intelligence and Security Committee, that the Mandelson files should be released at speed with absolutely minimal redactions.
